With a little steps the decision to move rather than stay still.
To try something rather than merely fantasied about it. Go ahead, take that step feel the energy change around you, within you. Trust me you are really moving in the right direction.
On our previous edition, I did mention that it’s time for us to start making little changes that will shape our lives, because keeping healthy is not just for a period but a total life style change.
As we embrace a new attitude toward our diet, I feel that it will be of great use if we put into check what we drink along side with our meal. Several times my clients/friends always ask the question so what should I drink now that my diet has changed?
People like me who enjoy fizzy drink with a meal (when I was over weight) have to swap for drinks that contain beneficial ingredients to naturally promote mental and physical well- being.
Making a healthy drink choice can be tricky when thirst strikes especially when the weather is hot, but we must drink healthy.
Juices vs. smoothies:
We all know that we’re suppose to have five portion of fruits/vegetables daily, don’t we just find that it’s quite difficult to meet the quota, one glass of fruit juice per day counts towards the recommended daily amount to boost our vitamin intake. Both seem to be nutrient pack drinks. However juice can only be count as one daily portion no matter how many glasses you down. This because most of the nutrients are lost in the pulp that’s discarded during juicing, we also loss the fiber which has been shown to help reduce risk of cancers as well as slowing the rate of sugar absorption, avoiding the sudden sugar rush that can lead to insulin resistance.
Smoothies (blended rather than juiced fruit) may seem a healthier choice because they retain the goodness of the whole fruit. While boosting protein and calcium content if milk or yogurt is used.
Black tea vs. green tea: green and black tea comes from the same plant but the leaves are process differently according to the tea council, both varieties contain similar amount of antioxidant flavonoids, which help prevent ageing, cancer, and heart disease. However green tea generally has lower level of caffeine. Some green also help to calm and promote well being.
Fizzy drinks vs. Natural fruit drinks: nowadays there are many natural fruit and herbal drinks which are very good for the body. Taking them on a daily basis also help digestion and absorption of nutrients which add vitamins, minerals and amino acids to our diet, as a result promote a healthy lifestyle.
Water: it’s an essential part of our diet – given that our cells are 82 per cent water, it’s not surprising! Drinking fruit juices and drinks including water is way to ensure our fluid levels are kept topped up, especially after exercise or in a warm weather.
WHATÂ Â TO KNOW
Cranberry juice is thought to be beneficial for those with cystitis and it’s also bursting with vitamin c.
Alcohol: moderate drinking- between 1 and 2 unit of alcohol a day – has a protective effect on the heart in men aged over 40 and in women who have gone through the menopause. One unit of alcohol equals half a pint of ordinary beer or small glass of wine.
However, heavier drinking can contribute to disorders of the heart muscle, high blood pressure and stroke.
Alcohol is high in calories too. One unit of alcohol has at least 100kcal. (British Heart Foundation)
