Dear Harriet, reading through your passage every Saturday on the Nation Newspaper has been of tremendous benefit to me in so many ways. May I seize this opportunity to say a big thank you and may God continue to enrich you with more wisdom and knowledge. Please I need your counsel, ever since I lost my job my attitude towards life has changed, this is a job that I gave it all and my organsation did not see it fit to at least invite me for a talk before sending me a message that my service is no longer needed due to the present situation of things in the country. I feel so bad about the manner I was ask to leave not that I was laid off after putting in good fifteen years of my life. I need your counsel desperately. (Name with held. Lagos.)
Your case is a very sensitive and delicate one; we must commend you for sharing your situation and seeking advice. Losing a job unexpectedly can actually be very traumatic; the reason is that in most cases majority don’t really see it coming. That you are able to put yourself together is worth congratulating. The feelings you are experiencing at this time is highly expected, allow yourself to be provided whatever action you want to carry out is not harmful. If you feel like crying for example, do so it is a therapy on its own and that might make you feel better. If you want to write your feelings down, don’t hesitate these are ways that will help you go through this nasty experience, in order to give room for your healing with time. if anyone say to you that it is going to be easy, trust me it really going to be tough but the good news is that things will start getting better with time and in due course you will beginning to see the bright light of things. When God allow certain situations to befall us, there is a reason, I know some people say why bring God into the matter, trust me, He is the only one that knows the beginning from the end. As human there is a limit to things we know but with God he is always in charge. Don’t forget we are not on earth on our own accord rather we are sent down here for a reason and purpose and until us beginning to understand the fact that in every disappointment we experience is an appointment to God we will keep struggling on our own over situations instead of tuning to our creator for answers. In addition, out of job is definitely not out of the world, who knows it might just be the right time for you to leave in order to be at your rightful place at the moment. Most people who have experience what you are going through will tell you that looking back today they are grateful for what happen to them years back because today they are so happy and satisfy doing what they enjoy most. They are now employers of labour so that should be your story. you might be wondering in your mind how is this going to be possible considering the fact that you were not ready for it, survive is about take one step at a time, moment by moment, day by day trusting in God not in man and putting action into every dream you want to achieve. Only a lazy man or woman lament endlessly without taking action to change and improve his /her situation. Life is full of surprises so pick up yourself and refuse to be in the position that people want you to be but rather be in the place you want to be. Furthermore, hard work don’t kill; look inward and find that talent within you, if you need to be train on it do so, improve yourself because you have a lot to gain than loss. Start from somewhere little by little and in no time you will be fully establish don’t give up on life but see your situation as a stepping stone to greater height. Be grateful for all that you have achieved so far and strive to do more, as far as we are alive the struggle continues for both rich, poor, big, small male and female only the dead rest in peace. Avoid self pity and blame instead keep giving thanks and praise to God for leading you this far. That you are alive to tell your story show that there is more in you that the world need to benefit from so don’t allow your present situation define you because you are a person with great potential ready to explode.
