Healthy eating for all!

Keeping a healthy life style is not complete until you impact it on the people around you so helping your entire household to start eating healthy is a true way of showing love to others not just yourself. If for example I am eating right because I love myself and don’t assist members of my family to do same, of what benefit is my healthy life style. Love is complete when you express it to others. Getting your family and your love ones to start a healthy life style with you is the greatest achievement. A home where everybody is health conscious keeps the doctor away. To start this journey of healthy eating you need to analyses a few things. In the first place you need to put into consideration the nature of your activity level and that of your family members. How active are they job wise? Once this is establish your next step is to put into account what and when you eat; in these days of snacks and eating on demand it is important to keep track of your eating habits and that of your family as well. In addition, you need to be aware of your patterns of hunger and appetite. Hunger is when your body demands to be fed, appetite is about your taste preferences. Our change lifestyle patterns mean that the times we feel hungry may be quite unexpected. If we find ourselves eating both when our bodies send pangs of hunger and on those occasions when social conventions expect us to traditional meal times, in other words- our calorie intake is likely to go up dramatically. Furthermore, if we haven’t identified the times of the day when we are likely to feel hungry, we have almost no chance of developing a properly discipline calorie-controlled diet. Most families on a daily bases have just a meal or two together daily because they are never home at the same time. In order to be on the same page it is idea to have a planned family menu, which should be review from time to time. Activity should also be included to encourage them to have the habit of exercising. Among the food on the list should be legumes- a legume is a pod, like peas, or beans. The most common legumes in our environment are beans, soya beans, groundnut, and cow peas. Amazingly, they are considered by many people as lowly food not knowing that they have many nutritional and therapeutic properties. As a matter of fact, no other food is as rich in protein as legumes in their natural state. Beans for example are fantastic source of protein; it can be prepared in different ways, some like it in porridge form, some boiled plain, some mix and blend into paste with other ingredients, in form of moi-moi or Akara. Note the way you cook your beans is what makes it healthy or not. Beans are a better substitute to introduce your family especially if you are trying to cut down on your red meat in take. Other benefits of beans are as follows;

It gives us a slow release of energy, they are known as low GI food, which means the help prevent blood sugar level swings. Beans also help’s to keep you fuller and alert for longer as a result some people term to drink plenty of water after eating beans. Beans are excellent source of soluble fibre, which helps to lower cholesterol level. Study has also shown that regular consumption of beans can reduce the risk of heart attack by almost 40 per cent. More so, the insoluble fibre in beans adds bulk to stools thereby promoting a healthy digestive system. The insoluble fibre in beans and other pulses helps protect the lining of colon from cancer – forming agents and so reduces the risk of colon cancer. Beans also contain high levels of zinc, which is one of the most skin-supportive vitamins. Zinc is mostly useful for those suffering from acne as it promotes wound healing and aids healthy skin growth.

What to know about Soya Beans;

As women approach menopause their bodies produce less oestrogen, and their skin loses some of its elasticity and appears dryer, soya contains large amount of isoflavones, the plant form of this hormone which help the skin retain moisture and firmness and reduce skin discolourations such as age or sun spot. It also provides iron that is better absorbed by the body than other pulse. In conclusion, making sure that your diet contains a good balance of protein and carbohydrates is essential to give you and your family members that go get up and go, as well as making sure everybody look and feel healthy. Showing yourself love by eating right is whole when you involve people around you.
